holographic ROM and RAM

In cases where holographic data can only be recorded once in optical media, then the media is "Holographic ROM" (HoloROM). When holographic information may be frequently retrieved and changed in real time, then the media is "Holotech Random-Access-Memory" (HoloRAM). There is additional discussion at IBM research on holographic data storage of related material.

Potential forms for holographic data media include holographic recordable media disks ("holographic disks") and cubes ("holocubes"). The recordable media must be open to light, but additionally resilient in construction. Modest-sized holographic disks or holocubes may contain upwards of a terabyte of information. When holotechnology media can only be recorded once, it is holotechnology read-only memory ("holorom"). When holotechnology media may be frequently retrieved and written right away, then it can serve as holotechnology random access memory ("holoram").
